Environment and Conservation Print E-mail

The farm has been working closely with the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust for the past 25 years and we have been jointly responsible for pioneering farm conservation systems which are now accepted as good practice all over Europe. These systems include conservation headlands, beetle banks, field margin management and rotational hedge trimming. We have recently established lapwing squares and wild bird strips and other important conservation practices under the Entry Level Scheme (ELS) component of the Single Farm Payment (SFP).

As a result of these practices we have a high population of beneficial insects which give us biological control of cereal aphids and orange blossom midge.

We have a stable population of butterflies and increasing numbers of farmland birds, a wide range of small mammals and some very rare arable plants.
